Laser Cavity Detector
Our office is proud to be the first in Spokane to have the new Diode Laser from
Biolase. Dr. Weigand and his staff are all certified; representing advanced training.
The Biolase Diode Laser is a wonderful tool in the fight against gum disease.
The laser's ability to precisely remove diseased gum tissue is unsurpassed. In
fact, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced in late 2003 that
it has given clearance for Biolase Diode Lasers to assist in both early and advanced
stages of periodontal therapy (gum disease therapy), the first laser to get this
prestigious clearance.
Not
only can the laser remove diseased gum tissue with
no stitches and much less pain, but it also sterilizes
gum pockets. Deep inside these gum pockets exist
bacteria that resist traditional treatment. With
the laser we can now use low levels of energy to
kill these bacteria - in effect decontaminating the
pockets. This form of treatment has never been possible
before. In the past, we treated these pockets with
antibiotics, but that actually created resistant
bacteria. Using the laser to clean and decontaminate
these specific areas of gum disease as they form
in patients' mouths represents state of the art therapy. |
